Ski Resort Reviews Switzerland

Andermatt

(14 Oct 2003): I was raised in Andermatt and now live in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. As a Mountain Guide, I have skied all over Europe and Canada. I was working in Zermatt and Verbier in Switzerland as a Ski patroller, now I'm a Heliskiing Guide for the biggest Heliskiing Company in Canada. The best off pist skiing you will find in Europe is still around Gemsstock in Andermatt. A fresh powder snow day there, could beat the world famous Canadian powder any time! Trust me, I know what I'm talking in terms of skiing. Go and have a look, you will have a blast. If not, you must be a bad skier ......ha ha. Have fun in Andermatt

Château d'Oex

I skied Chateau d`Oex in February 2003. It is a very nice "non-touristy" type of village where you feel more like a guest than somebody who is just leaving his money in the place. The advantages are: Cosy, non-crowded resort with no lift-lines at all once your up the mountain, some empty, beautiful runs through the forest which you can do over and over again (ideal for intermediate skiers who just want to go up and down and again on empty but really lovely slopes), lovely huts with lots of atmosphere, good and reasonably priced food, beautiful scenery and extremly friendly people.

Engelberg

(2 Aug 2004): I had a great time skiing in Europe for the first time. I went in late January and practically had the mountain to myself. Brunni has an incredible view. The runs are intermediate, with no mogals, but were groomed well. The cafe at the mid point of the mountain had many good soups and it was a nice break from the cold. The only bad part of the experience was coming down to Engleberg, where there were many spots where there was no snow and had to walk down. Other that that, a great experience and a short hop from Luzern. I would recommend it for summer or winter.

Klosters

(14 Sept 2002): I go snowboarding every year in Klosters. I think it is the best place for Snowboarding. It is a little bit expensive, but the people are very cool and the nicest part of the day is the apres ski at Gaudis Grastroechni next to the Gotschna-main-station... on the other side of the river under the umbrella. Vroni and Karin are my favourites, they are so cute. I hope that i will every one who read this side this winter in Klosters. Hope so, bye...

Verbier

Guests visiting Verbier this season will find all the sports services they need together under one roof. The new House of Sports, located behind the post office, houses the Swiss Ski School, the Kid's Club, the Guides Office, No Limits Center (for adventure and extreme sports), the Paragliding Center and the Swiss Snowboard School. Bookings for all activities are also possible through two sales outlets, in Médran, at the access point to the installations and in the office at Les Ruinettes.

St. Moritz

St. Moritz has it all really, the glamour, the sun, the ski, and the snow. its one of my favourite resorts,as you could ski there for a whole season and not get bored of the slopes or scenery. there is just so much to do, and its great to see how the likes of the rich and famous spend their time and money! however if your strapped for cash id recommend hiring a car, and getting a hotel out of the St. Moritz vicinity as the prices are hair raising!

Wengen

(18 Jan 2004): What a time it was ,oh, what a time, it was! I've never forgotten the first time i saw the oberland, 3' of fresh snow nearly crippled the cog-trains from zweilutchenin, bout we made it through the record snowfall that night. The next morning i was awe-struck!glistening white in the morning sun, the eiger looked magnificent, the monck sirene, and the jungfrau was positively divine. I never skied before in my life, since penna. Offers little choice, but i vowed to learn,so that i could frolick amongst those beautiful peaks in all their glory!i was challenged by the lauberhorn run, days after the world cup(i fell, time after time, but i persevered!). I would coast downhill with my eyes closed, in bliss, floating as if on a cloud!i'd hit that last chute into town, the one with the fence, like a pinball, rolling and sliding to the inevitable end at the bahnhof. And to see the alpenrose shine on the snows, at morning's light, well, you just have to see it,to believe it! That's why, after 30 years, i have to go back, capture some of my youth, like peter pan, and feel the magic, once more!

Zermatt

Regarded by many as Switzerland's top ski resort and by plenty as the world's best, Zermatt is extremely picturesque, car free and offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn and 28 other peaks surrounding the mountain village. The winter sports opportunities are equally mind-blowing, with the world’s second biggest lift-served vertical drop, and a virtual guarantee of snow from top to bottom throughout the season thanks to Zermatt’s altitude and snowmaking on the lower slopes.

Montreux

I've been to Montreux. There are hardly any ski-lifts there. But it is close (40 min) to all the ski resorts in Vaud and Valais. And it is a really nice town with all first class hotels!

Mürren

(3 July 2004): Murren is a truly massive place to come with the family. As long as you've got parents to dish out money for boozing and some other good young lads along then you can really make the most of it. Eiger on New Year's eve is a real treat; small bar like a classic oxford college beer cellar and you can shove all the beer money onto the rental's tab. Top skiing and a good selection of the right sort of people about
